What goes into a quote
Is it worth recovering that piece of furniture?
A lot of customers enquire, ask me.......I just want to know, is it worth recovering My chair or lounge suite?
And I always ask... How long have you had this piece of furniture, does it have sentimental value.....and...
Do you love the style/design and .....is it comfortable ?
Is there anything else you’ve seen at the furniture stores that you like
And if it cost you a lot of your hard earned money years ago....
And if you’ve had the lounge for 5-10 years or more, and said “yes” to the other 2 questions..and IF you can’t find anything NEW
Then you’ve answered your own question....
YES of course, it is definitely, well worth Re-covering/Re-upholstering.

Recover and Re-Upholstering?
RECOVER
If the the lounge has been well made, sometimes, all you need, is to replace your present lounge covering with a more modern fabric/ vinyl or leather .....
to give your lounge a facelift, or to blend in with your changing decor.
RE-UPHOLSTERY
This is when the lounge has been well used, or the kids have grown up, or left home
the fabrics well worn, and the seat cushions as well as the back cushions need replacing with NEW or sometimes just
re padding as well as the replacing arm foam padding.
We have a range of fabrics and vinyls from, to show you, Covertex/Cristina Marrone, Fryettes/ Porter & Stone, Ross Fabrics, Warwick UK, from plain to patterned, to leather look vinyls, and leather from, Futura, Crest and William Bugby.
AND all at affordable prices, to you the customer. Something you won’t find at the furniture shops....
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECOVER/REUPHOLSTER MY LOUNGE?
Please remember, as upholsterers, we don’t MASS PRODUCE furniture.... we don’t have patterns to help us cut/sew and recover your lounge, over nite,
.... this is a possible style lounge, we haven’t recovered before,
Now im not saying it’s too hard,
it’s just that, we need to use the OLD cover, to use as a pattern, to cut out the NEW FABRIC for your lounge, before sewing it together for a seat cushion, or an arm or a back cushion.
And it’s all done by, Gunter Upholstery, a Master Craftsman
From quoting to complete recover of a LOUNGE
Once we have worked how many metres/yards of fabric you need, for recovering your chair or lounge.... anything from...
4 - 7 metres per chair
8 - 14 metres for a sofa
Then we need to work out, HOW LONG, will it take....
From the time we pick up your furniture,
- stripping of old fabric, off your lounge and/or chairs
- replace any foam or do any repairs
- cut out your NEW FABRIC
- Sew piping and cushions together
- Attach NEW fabric to lounge
- Fill any cushions
- Deliver lounge back to satisfied, excited customer
Depending on what needs doing to your furniture,
- a sofa could take 3 days or more
- a chair could take 2 days or slightly less
- so a lounge and 2 chairs could take 7 days, or 10

It all depends on the fabric you choose, and how much work/detail in your existing piece of furniture or lounge, is required

What the makeup of the material is, can, determine the cost per yard/ metre
From man made/ synthetic fibres, to natural fibres of cotton, wool or linen.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you should decide to supply your own fabric.....we cant/ and won’t, Put a warranty or guarantee on the wear, of YOUR fabric, but please make sure, your fabric is treated to UK standards

- I learnt my trade/craft, in Sydney Australia , doing a 4 year apprenticeship , starting 1974, graduating in 1977.
- Becoming a, Qualified, tradesman in 1978.
- And I started off my own business, back in 1984, up till 2018, spanning 34 years, when we decided to move to the UK.
- Thats alot of years experience, wouldn‘t you agree....
- and what you get from us, is a guarantee that a Master Craftsman, with the years of knowledge and skill, is using his years of experience.. to make sure, you know your getting the highest quality finish
- I have left behind, alot of very HAPPY / very satisfied, customers,.........who said, they were sad to loose me, as it took a long time, to find someone, an upholsterer, a craftsman, they were more than happy with, that they were more than comfortable to recommend to family and their friends
- So in 1984, this is where it all started off, as a 1 man business, recovering and repairing domestic household furniture.
- My wife, Rose, joined me in 2017, we became a team and with her years of invaluable experience in household decorating, she became a valuable asset to, Gunter Upholstery
- We also use old techniques of upholstery, using old traditional materials, using coil springs that need to be tied on interlaced webbing base, and tied down,
- Using coconut fibre as a first stuffing and hessian, with stitches and edge stitching to form edge roll, and second stuffings of horse hair and flock/lintus
- And we also use the more modern/today upholstery techniques, using materials of rubber or elastic webbing or sprung platform and foam and polyster covering, in chairs, lounges, ottomans and headboards/ bedheads
- We also started into the commercial side of furniture, doing bespoke Ottomans/ Pouffes/Benches and Banquet seating
- These are made locally, using construction plywood or MDF, then glued, screwed and nailed to strengthen joints
- Using Commercial grade foam.
- These are made to last and withstand years of the vigorous use and treatment of pubs and shopping centres.
- They can be made with deep buttoning, or without
- For Households, pubs, clubs, backpacker hostels, coffee shops, and shopping centres.
- And over the years, a lot of our work came from returning customers as well as word of mouth, which says a lot about the quality of our work and our customer service
- There is nothing more satisfying, in seeing a satisfied customer, when they see their tired old lounge, revitalized, and brought back, and given a NEW lease of life,
